Friends of the San Tan Valley Library October events begin this weekend

The Friends of the San Tan Valley Library will be celebrating San Tan Valley’s very first “National Friends of the Library Week” Oct. 15-21. They are hosting a Community Membership Drive and everyone who joins the group as a member will receive a complimentary raffle ticket and will be entered to win one of several gifts in the "Neighborhood Night Out Raffle” on Oct. 28 at their book sale.

Friends of the San Tan Valley Library, a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit, has announced several upcoming events for the community. 

The Friends is an all volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the San Tan Valley Library and surrounding communities. They are hosting a Community Membership Drive and everyone who joins the group as a member will receive a complimentary raffle ticket and will be entered to win one of several gifts in the "Neighborhood Night Out Raffle.” Prizes include gift certificates from local businesses in the community. Members of the Friends receive benefits, including discounts at book sales and extended library book checkout of up to 28 days. 

Everyone who becomes a member for $10 will receive a raffle ticket and a chance to win prizes: first prize is $100, second prize is $75 and third prize is $50. All proceeds from the Membership Drive and the Raffle will directly benefit the community and support programming at the San Tan Valley Library. Winners will be drawn on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the close of the “Love Your Library Used Book Sale.” Winners will be contacted via email and announced on Facebook. 

The Friends of the San Tan Valley Library will also be celebrating San Tan Valley’s very first “National Friends of the Library Week” Oct. 15-21. The public is invited to attend, people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. The Friends will have a table set up at the San Tan Valley Library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15-21. Residents can ask questions, join as a member or volunteer and browse books and services offered at the library. 

On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Friends will host “Love Your Library Used Book Sale” from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Book sales are one of the main fundraising events for the organization. A great variety of books for children and adults will be available for sale at very reasonable prices. All proceeds support the programs and services of the San Tan Valley Library. Cash, Zelle and credit cards will are welcome. Winning raffle tickets will be pulled at the close of the sale.

Friends of the San Tan Valley Library is an all-volunteer organization and they are also seeking volunteers to assist with book sales and other events through the year. 

The group's mission is to "encourage positive communication and establish effective relationships between the San Tan Valley Library and local citizens; to advocate and represent the library through engaging community outreach in order to encourage, support and promote the importance of child and adult literacy in our community." 

Monthly meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month in the Bronze Room, which is across from the library in the Pinal Administrative Building. Meeting times are from 2 to 3 p.m. All members and volunteers are welcome to attend and participate.
