Donald James Sauer passed away on October 5, 2024, at the age of 72. After several months of declining health, Don was called home peacefully.
Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on September 7, 1952 to Mike and Belva Sauer. Don married Rita Burgard November 8, 1975, and settled into their home in Sioux Falls, where they proudly raised three sons (Jason, Scott, and Robert).
Don is a graduate of Roncalli High School in Aberdeen, as well as Lake Area Tech in Watertown S.D., where he studied civil engineering. He worked 32 years in the Engineering Department for the City of Sioux Falls before retiring and enjoying his golden years in Apache Junction, AZ.
He is survived by his wife Rita (Burgard) Sauer, son’s and their spouses Jason and Lisa Sauer (Arvada, CO), Scott and Cheryl Sauer (Edwardsville, IL), Robert and Summer Sauer (Florence, AZ), a brother and sister-in-law Doug and Delores Sauer (Sussex, WI) and eleven grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held in Sioux Falls at a later time to be announced.
