Bert Power Hunter was born in Yuma, Arizona, the son of Bertrand L. Hunter and Joan K. Power. His maternal grandparents, Albert Power and Martha Fisher Power, were both part of Yuma’s pioneer families. His grandparents and his stepfather, Harold Willhite, had a strong influence on him during his youth, sharing a passion for fishing, hunting, boating, and camping.
During high school, Bert spent summers working in the cantaloupe fields in Yuma and Salinas, California to help pay for college expenses. It was backbreaking and physically taxing, but he always remembered the lessons he learned from this time and appreciated those involved in physical labor.
Bert participated in many activities in high school, including FFA and Future Scientists of America. He participated in sports during his elementary and high school years, but primarily focused on baseball and football. He was proud of the honor he had playing football at the same high school and getting to know both Curley Culp and Ron Jesse. Bert graduated from Yuma High School in 1966.
After high school, Bert attended Arizona State University, majoring in Agriculture, where he met his future wife, Linda F. Curtis. Although he enjoyed college life, Linda was his greatest focus. Bert and Linda were married in June of 1969. They had two sons, Jason Bert Hunter, and Justin Bill Hunter.
Bert and Linda moved to Tucson where he was a co-owner in a Car Rental Company for several years. After selling the company, he and Linda moved to Carlsbad, California where they lived until his retirement from Eco-Lab. Bert and Linda always planned to move back to Arizona to spend their retirement years. They followed their plan, moving to Queen Creek in 2012.
Bert was pre-deceased by his son Justin Bill Hunter, parents, Joan Power Willhite, Bertrand Louis Hunter, stepfather Harold Willhite, and his brother James Martin Willhite.
Bert left behind Linda F. Hunter, his wife of 54 years, son Jason Hunter, grandchildren Nicholas and Skye Hunter, sisters Diane (James) Minton, Susan (Sid) Hooper, Sharlene (Ernest) Taylor, cousins Joseph Seitz and Michael Seitz, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
