Effective as of last week on Oct. 1, the sales tax in specific areas of Town Center will be reduced from 2.5% to 2.25%. The reduction applies to businesses in the Queen Creek Marketplace (anchored by Target), QC District (anchored by Sprouts) and Cornerstone at Queen Creek (anchored by Walmart). In 2007, an additional 0.25% sales tax was approved for developments in Town Center and designated to help pay the debt incurred for building Ellsworth Loop and other enhancements in the Town Center.
“As a Council, we are committed to fiscal responsibility – we continue to evaluate fees and taxes,” said Mayor Julia Wheatley. “The elimination of the additional 0.25% Town Center sales tax is an example of our commitment to reducing taxes and fees, when we are able to do so. The debt associated with constructing Ellsworth Loop Road has been fulfilled, allowing us to eliminate the additional sales tax.”
Ellsworth Loop Road was constructed to spur economic development in Town Center, creating a commercial hub that preserved the original Ellsworth Road while enhancing traffic flow. As commercial development has flourished in the Town Center, the Town is investing in the downtown core with infrastructure enhancements that will help drive private investment. The sales tax rate throughout the Town of Queen Creek is now 2.25% (in addition to the State and County sales tax). The Town has notified impacted businesses over the past several months to allow time to adjust their sales tax collection with the Arizona Department of Revenue.
