Things to do: Seasonal fun planned in downtown Gilbert beginning Oct. 3

Gilbert is welcoming the change of seasons this fall with Harvest in the Heritage District. Come October, Downtown Gilbert will show off some fall color and host fun activities for all ages during the month-long celebration.

This is the second year for the community event that will feature activities and themed events for residents and visitors to the Heritage District. Discover Gilbert, the tourism marketing arm for Gilbert, will be promoting the festivities on a dedicated website, HarvestintheHD.com. The website details all the activities being planned, including a list of participating downtown merchants and their fall specials, new menu items, events and offerings.

What to expect in the Heritage District this October

Autumn Glow in the District
Discover endless photo opportunities with this year’s enhanced fall décor and lighting. Look for camera icons around the Heritage District to find the best spots for capturing the season’s magic. Share the joy, and use #DiscoverGilbert for a chance to be featured. The iconic Hearne Way hoop lights will be coordinated to the colors of the season and fall foliage and décor will be displayed along the signature lamp posts lining Gilbert Road between Elliot Road and Vaughn Avenue.

Gilbert Parks & Recreation will host a series of free, family-friendly events every Thursday evening in October near Heritage Marketplace. The series kicks off with ¡Viva! A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage on Oct. 3. Additional programming will include a concert, variety show and spooky magic show. Complete details and times can be found online.

Community Mural Event at Gilbert Mural Pocket Park
On Sat., Oct. 5 the community is encouraged to grab a paint brush and join local artist Camila Ibarra as they create a mural reflecting cultural celebrations from across the globe – including Día de Los Muertos, Halloween, Oktoberfest, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Native American Heritage Month. Check in begins at 9 a.m. The mural will remain on display throughout the month of October. The registration link to select a time slot to participate in the painting activity will be posted online. The event will take place south of #39 American Legion (206 N Gilbert Rd) at the pocket park. 

Fall Harmonies Installation at Heritage Marketplace
Human-powered fun is back this year from Le Monde Studios. Join the Fall Harmonies installation featuring larger than life musical instruments for all ages. Guests can expect a ten-foot-tall banjo, a 9-foot-tall violin and returning this year is the popular guitar-shaped slide – featuring 18 feet of fun with a new tunnel added for little ones! All installations feature lights and sounds of the season which become audible with crank-style movement. Installations will be located in the pocket park at Heritage Marketplace, west of Barrio Queen (388 N Gilbert Rd).
