While the attention has been on Queen Creek Unified School District's newest high school, Crismon, for this 2022-2023 school year, we're highlighting the district's second newest school, Schnepf Elementary.
Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) Governing Board members unanimously voted to approve this name during its Nov. 17, 2020 meeting before the school opened. Governing Board policy states that schools can be named after historical landmarks, geographical landmarks or formations, vegetation indigenous to the site surroundings, proper names of an individual who have made significant or noteworthy contributions to the district and or its community.
The Schnepf family has farmed in Queen Creek for more than 70 years and this QCUSD school was built on what used to be Schnepf farmland.
“On behalf of the QCUSD Governing Board and staff, we are honored to name this school after the Schnepf family. Naming our newest (elementary) school after the Schnepfs honors the family’s contributions to the community through public service, community development, business ownership and charitable work,” Dr. Perry Berry, QCUSD superintendent, said at the time.
Schnepf Elementary School is a STEAM-focused (science, technology, engineering, art and math) Leader in Me school that serves students in grades preschool through sixth. Schnepf Elementary is in the Harvest at Queen Creek subdivision near Gary and Riggs roads and opened in July of the 2020-2021 school year.
