Queen Creek Town Council names Leah Martineau vice mayor; approves committee assignments

Responsibilities of the vice mayor include conducting meetings of the Town Council when the mayor cannot be present and representing the views of the mayor and the town at official and ceremonial functions and in meetings with other agencies when the mayor is unable to attend.

At its Jan. 17 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council selected Councilmember Leah Martineau to serve a one-year term as vice mayor. Responsibilities of the vice mayor include conducting meetings of the Town Council when the mayor cannot be present and representing the views of the mayor and the town at official and ceremonial functions and in meetings with other agencies when the mayor is unable to attend. The mayor nominates the vice mayor from among Town Council members, and the mayor and Town Council vote to confirm the appointment.

“I want to extend my thanks to our outgoing vice mayor, Councilmember (Jeff) Brown,” said Mayor Julia Wheatley. “For two years, he served with humility and compassion, during the passing of late Mayor (Gail) Barney and my first year as mayor. I appreciate your support and continued commitment. And I am so excited to welcome Councilmember Martineau to her first term as vice mayor. Her passion for our community is contagious and I know she will serve in this role with that same enthusiasm.”
