Queen Creek Town Council approves Mayor’s Teen Advisory Committee

The committee will provide valuable perspectives to local government, ensuring youth voices are heard, and their needs and ideas are considered. The committee is anticipated to officially begin in October.

At its Aug. 7 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council approved Ordinance 841-24, establishing the Mayor’s Teen Advisory Committee (M-TAC). The committee will provide valuable perspectives to local government, ensuring youth voices are heard, and their needs and ideas are considered. The committee is anticipated to officially begin in October.

“I don’t know all of the problems our youth are facing, and I certainly don’t know all the solutions – which is why is it so incredibly important to have involvement from our teens,” shared Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley. “Establishing a Mayor’s Teen Advisory Committee was something I felt passionate about before I even considered running for mayor. I am so proud of our council for supporting this effort and so appreciative of our youth who have been part of the process so far. I know this community cares deeply about our youth and officially establishing the M-TAC will continue to be one of the highlights of being mayor.”

Notice of interest forms are being accepted online at QueenCreekAZ.gov/Teens and can be submitted through Monday, Sept. 9. The M-TAC will foster youth empowerment, civic responsibility and contribute to policy decisions.

Additional opportunities for youth include participating in the LINK, hosted every second and fourth Friday evening at the Recreation Annex. The LINK is a free opportunity for teens to gather in a positive environment and connect with one another. The new Recreation Center, slated to open in 2025, will have a dedicated teen space and programming.
