Friends for Life, a nonprofit no-kill animal shelter, is gearing up for its annual charity yard sale, set to take place January 23-25 at the shelter’s Scentral Park, located at 952 W. Melody Ave. in Gilbert.
The event, which draws community members donating items for weeks in advance, kicks off with an early-bird sale on Thursday, January 23, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Admission for early access is a $5 donation. General sale hours will follow on Friday and Saturday, January 24 and 25, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We get so excited to see the community involvement,” said Amanda O’Fallon, the shelter’s fundraising director. “We start getting inquiries months in advance about donation drop-offs, and when people see the incredible items others have donated, they make sure to come back to shop. All funds raised from this event directly benefit the dogs and cats that Friends for Life rescues.”
Each year, a rescued animal with significant medical needs becomes the center piece of the fundraiser. For 2025, Starburst, a stray dog found in Yuma, is the event’s primary beneficiary. After being rescued, Starburst was found to be bleeding internally and required emergency surgery costing over $9,000. She is now making a full recovery.
Donations for the yard sale are currently being accepted. For more information, visit the Friends for Life Facebook page at facebook.com/AZfriendsforLife under the Events tab, check the website at azfriends.org, or call 480-497-8296.
