Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley appointed chair of regional committees

The Maricopa Association of Governments provides a forum for local governments in the greater Phoenix region. Member agencies consist of 27 municipalities, three Native nations, Maricopa County, portions of Pinal County and the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley was recently appointed chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Transportation Policy Committee.

Wheatley has served on the MAG Transportation Policy Committee since 2022, most recently serving as vice chair in 2023-2024. 

“The MAG Transportation Policy Committee oversees the development of the Regional Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Investment Plan and guides policy decisions related to transportation planning in the region,” said Wheatley. “At such an important time for Arizona transportation and infrastructure, I’m honored to serve and represent our town as chair of this committee.”

Wheatley also serves on the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council.

In addition to serving as chair of the MAG TPC, Wheatley was also recently appointed to serve as chair of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) Board of Directors. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is owned and operated by the PMGAA, which includes the municipalities of Apache Junction, Gilbert, Mesa and Queen Creek, as well as the Gila River Indian Community.
