QCUSD: Battle of the Books 2022 District Championship April 27

This year, QCUSD has three local teams (Desert Mountain, Jack Barnes and Gateway Polytechnic) who will be attending the Battle of the Books 2022 District Championship on April 27.

Throughout the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD), many of students compete in an event to test their memory and knowledge of books. America's Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students in grades 3-12. The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers.

Students can participate by reading from the book list provided by America's Battle of the Books. Students may count "books" they have read before. However, they cannot count books that they have only seen on a video or a movie. They must read the book and keep a summary so they can review this information before their "Local School Battle."

A typical "Battle" is a game, in which students' teams earn points by answering questions about the books on the book lists. A typical competition day begins with a meeting and reviewing of the rules of the "battle." They play several rounds, each against a different team. Points are given for providing the correct answer to the question, and additional points are added if the team provides additional information, such as the book title and the author who wrote it. Points are totaled and the highest-scoring team wins their local school battle.

This District Battle will also feature students from the J.O. Combs School District and will be on April 27 at Combs Traditional Academy. The battle begins at 6 p.m.
