Phoenix Indian Center to host 3rd Annual Two Spirit Powwow April 15

Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the Powwow’s mission, bringing some of the area’s best dancers together for fun and appreciation to celebrate the Native American Two Spirit LGBTQ+ community.

The Phoenix Indian Center will present its Third Annual Two Spirit Powwow on Saturday, April 15 at South Mountain Community College.

Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the Powwow’s mission, bringing some of the area’s best dancers together for fun and appreciation to celebrate the Native American Two Spirit LGBTQ+ community from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the South Mountain Community College south lawn, located in Phoenix at 7050 S. 24th St.

“Following a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the center is thrilled to bring back the annual Two Spirit Powwow to our community this year,” said Jolyana Begay-Kroupa, CEO of the Phoenix Indian Center. “While we acknowledge and celebrate our Two Spirit LGBTQ+ community members daily, this powwow pays a special tribute within the Native community.”

There will be a contest powwow that all dancers and drum groups are invited to participate in. The age groups for entry are Tiny Tots, Juniors, and Teens & Adults. In addition, attendees can enjoy an indigenous market, food trucks, and outreach booths and receive free STI testing.

The vendor market will open at 10 a.m. with the grand entry at noon and celebrations concluding at 6 p.m. Parking and admission are free to this family-friendly event.
