The Literary Society of the Southwest is excited to announce its call for grant applications from eligible local nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing literacy through impactful programs and services.

As part of its commitment to promoting literacy within Arizona, the Society invites nonprofit organizations to apply for grants during its 2024-2025 grant cycle.

Since 2008, the Literary Society of the Southwest has championed initiatives to positively transform long-term educational outcomes for Arizona's children. The Society firmly believes that fostering strong literacy skills in children is the cornerstone of their academic success and future achievements. The research underscores this belief, revealing that children who struggle with reading proficiency by third grade face a higher likelihood of academic challenges, including delayed high-school graduation rates up to four times greater than proficient readers.

The Literary Society's grants play a pivotal role in addressing this challenge head-on by providing critical funding during these formative years of learning.

"Our mission is not only to celebrate contemporary literature and authors but also to ensure that the joy and lifelong advantages of reading are accessible to all," said Ellen Brown, president of the Literary Society of the Southwest. "Through strategic partnerships with nonprofit organizations, we aim to empower young minds, bridging the literacy gap and paving the way for brighter futures."
