Eddie, an adorable Chihuahua blend, first found his way to the volunteers at Friends for Life Animal Rescue in 2013. He was quickly adopted and the volunteers bid him farewell on the journey to his happy life.
Thankfully, Friends for Life makes a lifetime commitment to the animals once in their care by remaining a contact on their microchip. In Eddie's case, it saved his life. Now 13 years old, a good Samaritan found him last Saturday morning, badly injured with deep lacerations on his chest, neck and hip and took him to the nearest emergency veterinary clinic. Unable to reach the adoptive family, the clinic contacted Friends for Life who, after many futile attempts to reach the family, authorized the emergency surgery Eddie required over this past weekend.
Eddie is now recovering in a foster home, where he has eaten a bit of baby food and given his foster mom some tail wags. Volunteers at Friends for Life are now working hard to raise the funds to cover Eddie's ongoing medical expenses and he'll be featured at the rescue's upcoming BARKtoberfest event this Saturday, Oct. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Gilbert rescue, located at 952 W. Melody Ave.
"Eddie has had a tough road recently and we would really like to know if something happened to the adoptive family, or if anyone has information regarding how Eddie may have received these terrible injuries," said Debbie Wilton, director of canine welfare for Friends for Life. "Any information would be very helpful."
Eddie will remain in the care of his foster family and Friends for Life volunteers until he has made a full recovery, at which time, he will once again be looking for a forever home to enjoy his golden years.
