Geoffrey Vredevoogd will be teaching special education this school year at Eastmark High School, staying in the Queen Creek Unified School District where students call him "Mr. V."
"I was born and raised in Chandler, graduated from Perry High School, then got my bachelor's (degree) in both elementary education and special education at ASU. I’m excited to be joining the Firebirds at Eastmark to teach seventh through eighth grade special education," Vredevoogd said. "This will be my second year as a teacher, my first being at Schnepf Elementary School where I was the special education teacher for the K-2 classroom. I learned so much during my first year and my passion for learning and teaching students only increased. During that time, I was also the head basketball coach for the seventh grade basketball team at Eastmark. This coming year I will be the head coach for both eighth grade basketball and JV, while also assisting with varsity. Coach Babinski (head varsity basketball coach at Eastmark) was actually my coach back at Perry High School. It’s so cool and an honor being able to work with him both as a player and now as a coach."
Vredevoogd likes to stay active, in his free time he said that he enjoys "swimming, hiking when it isn’t scorching hot out, playing basketball/volleyball, board games with family/friends and trying out all sorts of food places. When I get the opportunity, I love to travel. Whether it’s sandy beaches, high mountain tops or an awesome theme park, I just love to travel and explore. Cruises are probably my favorite type of traveling vacations, an Alaskan cruise being the next big one I want to experience. Japan and New Zealand are on the all time bucket list of places I must go."
