Produced by the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce, the 35th Fiesta de Septiembre, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7  in historic downtown Wickenburg, celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and recognizes the history of early Hispanic pioneers in Wickenburg.

The colorful event runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Wickenburg Community Center, located at 160 N. Valentine Street in the heart of the historic district.

“Fiesta de Septiembre is held each year to celebrate Wickenburg's early Hispanic pioneers and their heritage,” according to the chamber. “Learn about early families through cuentos, or stories, and photographs. Enjoy music from Mariachi Azteca De Oro and Barrio Latino, and enjoy performances by colorful folklórico dancers. An outdoor mercado, food and beverage booths and Kids Zona are also on site.”

Admission to the event is $5 and children ages 12 and under are free. The scheduled events include Hispanic Pioneer Families Photographs Exhibit, entertainment throughout the day with Mariachi Azteca de Oro, Ballet Folklorico de Santa Maria, and music by Phoenix’s own Barrio Latino.

A special book titled “Nuestras Memorias: Wickenburg Hispanic Pioneer Families” is available to purchase during the day. Outdoors, attendees will find a mercado with booths offering a variety of merchandise and food. Also, a margarita and cerveza cantina will have delicious drinks.

The Kids Zona program is where children learn to make Mexican crafts and attend games. Other activities include Viva Margarita! Contest, where contestants concoct their favorite recipes and compete for prizes. Another great event is the annual salsa and guacamole contests, where attendees will find contestants crafting their favorite recipes for prizes and the coveted “People’s Choice Award.”

The chamber noted that the event wouldn’t be possible without community sponsors, including  Arizona Public Service, Crescent Crown Distributing, The Wellik Foundation, Desert Caballeros Western Museum, Freeport McMoRan, Arizona Commission on the Arts, and Compadres of Fiesta de Septiembre.
