The Arizona Science Center officially announced it has broken the Guinness World Record for the largest object drop inertia experiment, previously held by Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest after the duo broke the record on air during a broadcast of "LIVE with Kelly and Ryan," four years ago.
On Oct. 19, during a designated field trip day at the Arizona State Fair, they set up an official attempt on the Community Stage to break the Guinness World Record for the largest object drop inertia experiment. Arizona Science Center gathered over 250 eggs across five, 6-foot-long tables and smaller side tables, along with over 250 glasses filled with water to catch all eggs during the drop. Arizona Science Center, in conjunction with Valley students, was successful in conquering the Guinness World Record, effectively dropping 155 eggs safely in the water-filled cups. The previous record was 138.
“We are elated that Arizona Science Center has broken a second Guinness World Record” said Guy Labine, the Hazel A. Hare president and CEO at the Arizona Science Center. “While our first record (creating the world's largest scissors) was an internal team effort, this attempt allowed us to invite members of the community to participate in this momentous occasion.”
In addition to breaking the record, Arizona Science Center has also partnered with Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Hope for Hunger Food Bank to donate all the eggs used in the experiment. They were meticulous in the treatment of each individual egg to ensure all food safety guidelines were followed, including handling eggs with gloves, temperature-controlled storage and more.
“We are so thrilled to have been a part of this record-breaking attempt with Arizona Science Center,” said Wanell Costello with the Arizona State Fair. “When we were first approached with the idea, it was almost a no-brainer to have the Science Center team out on our stage. We are so grateful to now be known as the location of the largest object drop in recorded history.”
