Cinnaholic, the original gourmet cinnamon roll bakery, is making the Queen Creek and San Tan Valley area a little sweeter this week as they “rollout” their newest location in Phase 1 of the Vineyard Towne Center.
To celebrate the grand opening of Cinnaholic Queen Creek on Friday, May 24, members of the community can enjoy one of Cinnaholic’s cinnamon rolls for $2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—limit of one roll per guest.
Located adjacent to the Villages at Queen Creek, Cinnaholic opens its doors Friday at 37584 N. Gantzel Road, Suite 103, just north of Combs Road.
“We are thrilled to announce the opening of Cinnaholic in Queen Creek," said Daniel Aldrich, director of marketing at Cinnaholic. "We are excited to share our sweet treats made with the highest quality ingredients and are 100% vegan, dairy and lactose-free, egg-free and cholesterol-free.”
With over 20 frosting flavors and more than 20 topping choices, Cinnaholic is the only gourmet bakery allowing customers to completely customize their cinnamon rolls. Each Cinnaholic cinnamon roll is 100% plant-based and free of dairy, lactose, eggs or cholesterol, allowing guests to enjoy their mouthwatering creations without worrying about certain dietary or allergy restrictions. Cinnaholic also provides catering for all events, large and small, including weddings, conferences and conventions.
Guests who sign up for Cinnaholic’s Rollwards loyalty program and make a purchase will be rewarded with a free Old Skool Roll, the bakery’s best-selling twist on a classic cinnamon roll. Rollwards members will also receive a free cinnamon roll on their birthday, be rewarded with special offers throughout the year, and earn 10 points for every $1 spent in-store and online, which can be redeemed for signature rolls, rolls by the dozen, cookies and more.
This newest Cinnaholic location will be family-run and operated by locals Matthew K. Hodl, 30, and Tēlor Sue Cansler, 29. While living in Gilbert, the couple fell in love with Cinnaholic. Not only did they love the vegan menu items, but they also appreciated the Cinnaholic brand, company culture and environment.
“We found this gem of a place called Cinnaholic in Gilbert, and we decided to bring the delicious vegan restaurant to Queen Creek,” said Hodl, whose family is already famous nationwide for its Vegan Cinnamon Rolls with the company. The new bakery will also offer a broad menu of upscale baked goods, including brownies, coffee cakes and cookies.
Under the management of Hodl Rolls LLC, the Cinnaholic Queen Creek staff is headed by Hodl himself, who has previous food service experience with the Red Robin Restaurant in Gilbert and the Uncle Bear’s in Queen Creek, as well as a stint with Carvana. Cansler has had management experience with multiple retail corporations. Silent partners are Matthew Hodl’s grandfather Kenneth F. Hodl, 73, a retired Chicago traffic engineer; and his great uncle, James J. Hodl, 75, a retired editor and writer for trade journals including Equipment Solutions and Chef, which covered the baking industry.
The opening of Cinnaholic Queen Creek brings the Hodl family back into the bakery business after four generations. From 1915 to 1933, Sabin and Helen Brudnicki, the maternal grandparents of chief Hodl Rolls investors James and Kenneth Hodl, operated Sabin’s Bakery in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood. A neighborhood bakery located on Cortland Street just a short walk from the old Congress movie theater, Sabin’s was noted for its Polish Rye Breads (with carraway seeds), as well as its Bobkas (coffee cakes) and Kolachis (cookies). After the Great Depression claimed Sabin’s Bakery, Sabin continued to work for other Chicago bakeries until he retired in 1957. George J. Hodl, father of Kenneth and James, also worked for a while for the Piper Bakery Co. of Chicago.
Family recipes have passed through the generations of the Hodl family, with Matthew being the latest to engage in home baking.
“I really like the Cinnaholic concept of offering vegan-recipe pastries,” Matthew Hodl explained. “Without dairy ingredients, the pastries are safe for people who have milk and egg allergies. And yet the pastries are as tasty and tickles one’s sweets palate as well or better than the standard product.”
Cinnaholic’s signature product is its Vegan Cinnamon Roll, which can be ordered with 20 unique coatings, including Caramel Apple Pie, Very Berry and Campfire S’mores. Customers also can customize the toppings on these rolls.
Other Cinnaholic baked goods include brownies, cookies, bite-sized Baby Buns, Cookie Cakes and Edible Cookie Dough. These can be washed down with gourmet coffee or the unique Dole Soft Serve pineapple ice cream.
The opening of the Queen Creek Cinnaholic also has a romantic angle.
“After falling in love with Tēlor and realizing she was into veganism, I promised her that I would one day open a vegan bakery with her,” added Matthew Hodl. “Securing the Cinnaholic franchise fulfills my promise."
