Desert Colors: Brewster International Kaleidoscope Expo comes to Scottsdale June 13-16

Annual International Kaleidoscope Expo brings together kaleidoscope artists, retailers and collectors from around the world - as well as the curious - allowing all a chance to share and enjoy the exciting art of kaleidoscopes.

Brewster Kaleidoscope Society (BKS) is a small nonprofit organization of artists, collectors and retailers focusing on kaleidoscopes. The organization’s members include artists who design and create kaleidoscopes, galleries and shops that sell kaleidoscopes, and collectors and museums that appreciate and enjoy them.

“The membership represents everyone with color in their souls and wonder in their hearts from all livable continents and multiple countries,” according to the organization.

Coined by Sir David Brewster, who invented the kaleidoscope in 1815, the word “kaleidoscope” means “observation of beautiful forms.” A kaleidoscope is an optical instrument (usually a tube) containing two or more reflecting surfaces (usually mirrors) tilted toward each other at an angle. Sizes vary - they can be an inch small or taller than a building.

BKS will hold its 32nd International Kaleidoscope Expo this summer in Scottsdale. The annual expo brings together kaleidoscope artists, retailers and collectors from around the world - as well as the curious - allowing all a chance to share and enjoy the exciting art of kaleidoscopes.

The Brewster International Kaleidoscope Expo will be held at the Scottsdale Hilton Resort & Villas (located at 6333 N. Scottsdale Road) from Thursday, June 13 through Sunday, June 16. This will be the place to meet artists and collectors who are eager to share a wealth of fun – attendees may participate in demonstrations, seminars and ask questions about kaleidoscopes.

The showroom will be open to the public on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, June 15, from noon to 4 p.m. With a wide variety of kaleidoscopes available to view or purchase, admission is $5 at the door for adults and there is no cost for children under 12 accompanied by a paying adult or students with a school ID.

Classes for BKS members only are on Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14. However, according to BKS, anyone can become a member by going to their website or completing a form and paying dues at the expo registration desk.
