Judy K. Buwalda

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Judy K. Buwalda, 77, of Mesa, Arizona. Judy passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 19, 1947, in South Bend, Indiana, Judy was the cherished daughter of Laura and Cashmir Kowalski, and the sister of Jean Popilek and Joan Shewbridge.

Judy lived in many places throughout her life, finally settling in Mesa, Arizona, in 1983. She spent her working years employed at Mesa Public Schools in a variety of positions. She retired there after 24 years of service in 2011. For the remaining years of her life, she spent time daily with her granddaughters and her friends.

Judy was a devoted mother to her three daughters: Katrina, Kristina, and Kelly. She found immense joy in supporting their endeavors, attending every school event, and extracurricular activities, and watching them grow. She also treasured the time she spent with her four granddaughters. She enjoyed puzzles, games, dancing, and keeping up with the lives of her family.

Beyond her professional and familial commitments, Judy had a deep faith, was an active member of the Catholic Church, and an admired friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kind heart, unwavering spirit, and joyful presence will forever be remembered.

Judy is survived by her daughters, Katrina, Kristina (Robert) and Kelly (Brian); her granddaughters, Cassadee, Cammie, Rhyan, and Chelsey; and her sisters, Jean and Joan.

A viewing and services was held Thursday, February 6.

Arrangements were cared for by Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, located in Mesa.
