Jennie Elizabeth Keaton was born August 10, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to Salvatore and Luigia Alfedele. She went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2022 surrounded by her four daughters and a son-in-law, David Couchman, at her home in Queen Creek, Arizona.
Jennie was pre-deceased by her husband, Harold Lee Keaton, her parents, her three sisters Prudy Browner, Rosemarie De Norio and Louise Dattolo, her son-in-law Dr. Donald Couchman and two Great Grandchildren Joseph David Coleman and Sophia Joy Keith. She is survived by her daughters Cathleen Couchman, Geraldine Couchman, Elizabeth Ruegg, Sandra Keaton and their spouses, 10 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Born to Italian immigrants, Jennie led a long and amazing life. She excelled in school, at work and in raising her four girls. During World War II, Jennie enlisted in the US Navy’s: Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services (W.A.V.E.S) on January 6, 1944, initially training at Hunter College in New York. She was honorably discharged from active service after the war. While in the Navy, Jennie met and married Harold Keaton who was a US Marine with combat service in the Pacific with the 1st Marine Division. They relocated to San Diego, CA where she raised her family and worked for 32 years at General Dynamics in the Atlas Missile and Space Program. Jennie and Harold were married for 37 years until his passing in 1982. She remained in San Diego until moving to Phoenix, AZ in 1992.
Jennie was a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Queen Creek, AZ and she enjoyed reading, dancing, travel, movies and, especially, spending time with her family.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 20615 East Ocotillo Road, Queen Creek, AZ 85142, on August 11, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Following the Mass, Jennie will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024 at 12:30 PM in honor of her service to the United States of America.
