School is back in session! After a long and restful summer, students are excited to be back in the classroom again.

Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) welcomed nearly 15,000 students this week for the 2023–2024 school year. Additionally, the district welcomed three new principals at Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary, Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary and Eastmark High School.

While students are looking forward to making new friends, teachers and staff are excited to dive into material and empower students to engage and excel.

Third grade teacher Margaret Moad looks forward to meeting a new group of students every school year.

“I’m most looking forward to getting to know a whole new group of students and to make relationships with them so they’ll have a happy, happy year,” said Moad.

Last year, QCUSD added a third A+ School of Excellence to the district with Jack Barnes Elementary. The district earned statewide recognitions for academics, athletics, arts and administration. The graduation rate was 95.07 percent, which is more than 20 percent above the state average.

“We are a successful, award-winning district because of our principals, teachers, staff, students and families,” said QCUSD Superintendent Dr. Perry Berry.
