QCUSD students have opportunities to explore future careers

Our job in QCUSD is to prepare students for their future. We want to help each student realize their potential. Whether it’s a vocational career immediately after graduation, plans to attend a university, or anything in-between, the first step is to explore.

In Queen Creek Unified Schools, our students have opportunities to explore future careers from the time they start in preschool and kindergarten through their senior year. Career exploration is key to student success, and we provide opportunities for hands-on experience, interaction with professionals in a variety of fields, and exposure to a wide array of occupations.

Queen Creek Unified’s three high schools just finished hosting annual career panel events that bring together speakers from different professions to share their experiences and education with students interested in those fields. QCUSD high school students participate in the Education Career Action Plan (ECAP) process that facilitates personalizing each student’s educational experience and preparing them for their future with aptitude assessments, proposed pathways and more. My goal is to ensure each student graduates from our district with a solid plan for the next step in their education or career.

Our elementary schools start early with career exploration. Career Days are hosted at each elementary school at least once a year, during which students get a chance to speak with experts in medical, public safety, technology and a variety of other professions. You may notice fire trucks, ambulances or even helicopters parked at our schools during Career Days, where students can explore and see for themselves the kinds of tools and equipment used by different professionals on a daily basis. In addition to designated Career Days, students often hear from professionals about their experiences related to leadership and life during assemblies, classroom visits and more. This ignites their curiosity and excitement, encouraging them to dream about their future.
