This month, senior students around the country will be exiting the doors of their schools for the last time, embarking on new beginnings in their colleges, careers, travels or other pursuits.
Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) provides preschool through 12th grade education to more than 14,000 students within Queen Creek and east Mesa, giving them opportunities to learn lessons and form a plan that extends beyond the classroom.
For many Queen Creek Unified students, the lessons they learned in our schools have helped them become the role models and community leaders we honor today as alumni. With our new Alumni Spotlight Award, we have recognized outstanding alumni who are making a difference locally and beyond.
Kennadee Riggs, a Queen Creek High School (QCHS) graduate, was crowned Miss Rodeo America earlier this year and is now touring the globe sharing her talents and the culture of our community. QCHS graduate Eddie Malone is serving his community in public safety as a Phoenix firefighter. Both individuals still find time to return to our schools to inspire and encourage students to follow their dreams.
Many of our own teachers were Queen Creek Unified students once themselves. Sydney Caldwell, a science teacher at Crismon High School, said “I am who I am today because of the skills and the goals that I was able to achieve as a student in QCUSD.” Now, she is inspiring others like her to pursue their goals.
We will continue to honor QCUSD alumni and showcase the work they are doing today, wherever their paths have taken them. If you know someone you think should be honored as an outstanding alum, please nominate them through this link.
Dr. Perry Berry has been superintendent of the Queen Creek Unified School District since June 2015.
