Eastmark High's Bryson Nielsen takes 6th nationally in 800 meters at 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals

Nielsen, a junior at the Queen Creek Unified high school, has quickly become one of Arizona's top track and field athletes and it showed at the 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals and USA Track & Field U20 Outdoor Championships June 12-15 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, where he turned in a personal best time of 1:51.30 in his heat of the GARMIN 800-meter championship. That time has him getting closer to making state history for the 800m.

The Queen Creek Unified School District announced today that Eastmark High School's Bryson Nielsen won his heat and took sixth nationally in the 800 meters at this year's Nike Outdoor Nationals.

Nielsen, a junior at the Mesa high school, has quickly become one of Arizona's top track and field athletes and it showed at the 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals and USA Track & Field U20 Outdoor Championships June 12-15 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, where he turned in a personal best time of 1:51.30 in his heat of the GARMIN 800-meter championship on June 14. That time has him getting closer to making state history for the 800 meters.

"A huge kick from Mesa Eastmark junior Bryson Nielsen earns him the win in his heat of the GARMIN 800-meter championship at Nike Outdoor Nationals. Nielsen ran a personal best time of 1:51.30. He’s close to cracking the all-time top five list in state history for the 800m," wrote The Arizona Republic prep sports reporter Logan Stanley on X with his video here of Nielsen winning his recent heat.

The Queen Creek Sun Times is trying to reach Nielsen and his family to feature his accomplishments and do a one-on-one with him on how he sees this year's track and field competitions moving forward before he graduates from the Queen Creek Unified high school and what his plans are for the future, including college-level competition and next month being the 2024 Summer Olympics.
