Corbin Smith to be Crismon High School head football coach

"We could not be more excited to build our football program under Coach Smith’s direction," QCUSD officials said.

The Queen Creek Unified School District has announced that Corbin Smith has been hired to be Crismon High School Rattler's head football coach when the district's third high school opens in July.

Smith was previously head football coach at McClintock High School in Tempe, where he won more games in a five-year stretch than anyone since 2006.

"Coach Smith believes in Pride, Attitude and Responsibility. In addition to serving as the head coach at McClintock, Corbin brings a wealth of diverse coaching experiences at both the high school and college level over the last 27 years," Queen Creek Unified posted on social media. "We could not be more excited to build our football program under Coach Smith’s direction."

Smith's extensive football coaching experience includes: tight ends/offensive tackles coach and special teams coordinator for six seasons at the University of Missouri from 1995 to 2000; wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator at Arkansas State University during the 2001 season; assistant head coach, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Mesquite High School in Gilbert for four years; and quarterbacks coach at Mesa Community College.

As a player, Smith graduated in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Iowa. He played quarterback and special teams at the University of Southern California from 1991 to 1993 and the University of Iowa from 1993 to 1995. He attended Loyola High School in Los Angeles, where he was a captain in both baseball and football. He also won the CIF southern section Division 1 state championship his senior year.

Smith is the son of Larry Smith, former Tulane, U of A, USC and Missouri head football coach. He teaches special education and physical education and is working on his Masters in Education through the University of Phoenix. He will also be one of Crismon's special education teachers.

"With years of experience and a kind heart, we know the kids will love him," QCUSD officials said.

Smith has three boys; Preston Smith, 23, Braxton Smith, 21, and Brody Smith, 18.
