ASEC announces 2023 Ed Doherty Award Week 3

Queen Creek’s American Leadership Academy's senior quarterback Enoch Watson is a medallion recipient and candidate for Arizona’s top prep football player. Watson has committed to BYU.

The Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission (ASEC) and its managed entity, the Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club (GCSGC), have announced the recipients of the Week 6 Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions, recognizing outstanding performances from games played the week of Sept. 18.

Honorees include local player Enoch Watson, senior quarterback for Queen Creek’s American Leadership Academy, who has committed to BYU. He was 16-of-24 in passing for 242 yards and four touchdowns, leading a come-from-behind, 29-28 victory over Pinnacle that included catching his own tipped pass to score the winning touchdown with seconds remaining.

"Through Week 6, the entire state has been represented by medallion nominees,” said Mark Earle, co-chair of the Ed Doherty Award Selection Committee. “This is a testament to the depth and consistency of talent found in Arizona high school football.”

Each student-athlete will be presented his medallion this week at his respective school and is now a candidate for the 2023 Ed Doherty Award, annually recognizing Arizona’s most outstanding high school football player. This year’s recipient will be announced at a special luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 9, at The Scottsdale Plaza Resort and Villas.
