Rawhide is getting ready for its inaugural Indian Frybread & Arts Festival, a celebration of Indigenous culture and community. It will be held on the Sonoran Lawn at Rawhide in Chandler on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Festival guests will experience Native American culture through an all-Native line up of bands, traditional Native dance performances and artwork from Native American artists.
The band lineup will feature Casper & the Mighty 602 Band (Hopi/ Diné), One Way Sky (Tohono O’odham) and D Faktion Nyne (Tohono O’odham). Performances include Hoop, Fancy, Jingle, Grass and Traditional dances, plus a special appearance from world champion hoop dancer, Tony Duncan (Apache, Arikara and Hidasta).
Additionally, this event will feature two competitions, an Indian Frybread competition and a chili cookoff competition—both determining the best frybread and chili respectively. Also, the event will feature a lot of food vendors selling their own versions of Indian frybread and chili, and a free kids’ zone with inflatable rides.
“As a team, we’ve been really excited to bring this festival to Rawhide,” said Dave Horen, director of entertainment at the WHP Presents. “This event is perfect for families to come and enjoy great food, watch stunning performances and listen to beautiful music—all celebrations of the Native American culture.”
