September is a big month of birthday celebrations for the Town of Queen Creek as it is "Founders' Month," when the town celebrates its heritage.
Queen Creek was incorporated on Sept. 5, 1989 by the "Queen Creek Five," also known as the "Founding Fathers," who include Robert Eberle, Paul Gardner, Ralph Pomeroy, Mark Schnepf and Steve Sossaman. This is why the town celebrates Founders' Day, with this year's celebration coming up at Founders' Park, 22407 S. Ellsworth Road, on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Residents can learn more about the "Queen Creek Five" and their efforts by visiting a dedication plaque at Picket Post Square, located at the northwest corner of Ellsworth and Ocotillo roads.
At just 34 years old, Queen Creek is one of the youngest Valley municipalities. Residents can explore the town's history by visiting the San Tan Historical Society Museum, 20425 S. Old Ellsworth Road, or by participating in a special scavenger hunt going on now through Sept. 19 at the Queen Creek Library, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road (see the front desk to learn more).
Celebrate your friends and neighbors this week during QC Neighborly Week (Sept. 4-10) and attend the QC Community Concert on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center, 22149 E. Ocotillo Road. The free concert will include high schools from throughout Queen Creek coming together in song in honor of Constitution Week.
In the past five years, Queen Creek has seen rapid growth and experienced many firsts. Specifically, launching the Queen Creek Police Department in January 2022, being the first municipality in the state to have a fully funded pension reserve (saving taxpayers nearly $2 million annually), and the opening of State Route 24 from Ellsworth Road to Ironwood Drive.
Ranked as a top 10 'Most Livable City,' Queen Creek is expanding ambulance service, building new parks and investing in infrastructure. To learn more about the town's recent accomplishments, watch the State of the Town video here.
