The Rotary Club of Queen Creek is continuing its focus of bringing awareness to the many issues that affect teen mental wellness and providing resources to the community at its second Rotary Run for Resilience 5K Run/Walk in support of teen mental wellness this weekend.
"As part of the ongoing 'For Our Town' focus group hosted by the chamber of commerce, we found that mental health and resources to promote mental wellness are the number one needs in Queen Creek," said Jason Jantzen, president of the Rotary Club of Queen Creek. "Our club has championed this cause from day one and are happy to invite local businesses in the area to help sponsor this great event and align themselves with a cause that is making a positive impact."
This event brings together local vendors and mental health professionals to participants, families and community members alike. This year's race will be on Saturday, April 27 at Queen Creek's Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Centre, located at 20464 E. Riggs Road. The run/walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. with an awards ceremony scheduled for 8:15 a.m. The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities.
"In the wake of tragic incidents like Preston Lord's death, we recognize the urgent need to raise awareness of generational trauma, early signs of significant mental health concerns, and the overall mental health crisis affecting our teens today," said Rotary Club of Queen Creek member Crystal Brown, who is with LUCA Counseling & Wellness Center, LLC in Chandler. "With a focus on teen mental health resilience, the Rotary Club of Queen Creek is dedicated to fostering awareness and education about these critical issues for the youth and families in our community. Taking action through our upcoming 5K fundraising event serves as a platform to not only raise funds but also to amplify our efforts in addressing these pressing challenges."
Once again, the Rotary Club of Queen Creek will bring together local businesses, mental health professionals, community leaders, local government officials, runners, walkers and families for this one-of-a-kind community event. Last year’s 5K Run/Walk was kicked off by Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley and drew nearly 200 participants and dozens of spectators, all in support of raising awareness for teen mental wellness.
Those who wish to participate are encouraged to visit rotaryclubqc.com to register.
Once again, 100% of the net proceeds will benefit Rotary Club of Queen Creek’s local programs designed to improve youth mental resilience in an effort to mitigate teen suicide.
