The Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department joined other East Valley public safety agencies on Feb. 22 to conduct a triennial exercise event that included a simulated fire burn of an aircraft, volunteers representing injured passengers and a full public safety emergency response.
Every three years, the FAA requires airports to conduct a large-scale emergency response exercise like this. So Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, in coordination with Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek and Scottsdale fire departments, conducted the triennial public safety training exercise last week.
Queen Creek Fire and Medical would be one of several local agencies providing automatic aid during the unlikely event of an emergency involving aircraft at Gateway Airport.
