The Town of Queen Creek broke ground yesterday, Sept. 23, on the Sonoqui Wash Trail Project, from Hawes to Crismon roads.
“The Sonoqui Wash Trail is part of the town’s future 11-mile loop that connects the Queen Creek and Sonoqui Washes,” Queen Creek Vice-Mayor Dawn Oliphant said. “As our community grows, the mayor and council are committed to enhancing the quality of life our residents enjoy by providing opportunities for recreation. Our amazing trail system is a part of that plan.”
Queen Creek’s Park and Trail System provides connectivity throughout town and with neighboring communities, including Town Center and San Tan Mountain Regional Park. The trails highlight the natural beauty of Queen Creek and honor the community’s equestrian and agricultural heritage.
The segment of the trail from Hawes to Ellsworth roads will build upon the existing trail by widening the path and creating separation between the pedestrian trail and equestrian users. The segment from Ellsworth to Crismon roads will construct a new asphalt path for pedestrian users and a decomposed granite trail for equestrian users. The trail will include wayfinding signage and landscape features, and there will be enhanced pavement markings at the road crossings for increased safety.
The trail serves walkers, runners, bicyclists, and equestrians, and this project’s construction focuses on providing a safe and effective trail for all types of users while adding long-term beauty to the Sonoqui Wash.
