Queen Creek area traffic alerts entering 2023

The groundbreaking for Aldecoa Drive and Munoz Street, both from Ellsworth Loop to Ellsworth roads, will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5. This project involves design and construction of Aldecoa Drive and Munoz Street between Ellsworth Loop and Ellsworth roads.

As we enter a new year there are some notable road construction project updates Queen Creek motorists should keep in mind as they travel around town.

Meridian Road: Cherrywood to Combs

  • This phase of the Meridian Road improvements will complete the western half street from Combs Road to the existing roadway at Cherrywood Drive in Church Farms. Westbound Combs Road will be restricted to one lane at Meridian beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3 for paving and culvert work (the contractor was unable to complete the work earlier this month due to rain). Restrictions are anticipated through January.

Ocotillo Road: Ironwood to Signal Butte

  • Ocotillo Road, the east-west route through the heart of Queen Creek, is being widened from Ironwood to Signal Butte roads. The roadway project and landscape work is substantially complete. The contractor is completing final punch list items (warranty work at their cost), which is resulting in periodic lane restrictions. This work is anticipated to be complete by the end of January.

Town Center connectors

  • The groundbreaking for Aldecoa Drive and Munoz Street, both from Ellsworth Loop to Ellsworth roads, will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5. This project involves design and construction of Aldecoa Drive and Munoz Street between Ellsworth Loop and Ellsworth roads. The street design will follow the adopted Town Center design standards and have on-street parking, off-street bicycle paths and walkways. Raised crosswalk table intersections and crosswalks along with street furniture, knee walls, Town Center-style streetlights and landscaping will build upon the nearby Ocotillo Road's design look. Included in the design are water, sanitary sewer, storm water and drainage improvement components.

Queen Creek Road: Ellsworth to Crismon

  • Construction on Queen Creek Road is complete, with the exception of the Crismon Road intersection where box culvert works are ongoing. Construction of the section of box culvert that crosses Crismon Road is complete, and the backfilling and preparation for paving over the box is underway. Construction of the box culvert and the rebuilding of the road in and around the intersection continue to require the management of road traffic. Construction scheduling and traffic control on Crismon Road continue to be monitored to maximize traffic movement through the project area. Utilities and contractors are performing work between Crismon and Meridian roads through July 2023.

  • Current restrictions will remain as crews continue work on paving and culvert work. No notable closures or restriction updates at this time.

  • Queen Creek Road west of Ellsworth Road opened late last week.

  • Refinements of street signage and lane striping will occur over the next two weeks as town staff monitors the new roadway in preparation for the opening of Costco in January.

New notable traffic restrictions

  • There will be a southbound lane shift on Meridian Road, from Euell to Ocotillo roads, for paving through Saturday, Jan. 7.
