Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery announces its third annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration, scheduled for Saturday, November 2, from 4-7:30 p.m. The event will take place on the Field of Celebration, located centrally within the Mountain View Cemetery at 7900 E. Main Street in Mesa.

As a family-owned and operated business, Mountain View Funeral Home is honored to continue this tradition, offering a meaningful and inclusive experience for the community. This year’s event invites the public to set up their own altars in remembrance of loved ones who have passed away. These altars, or ofrendas, can be decorated with food, drinks, trinkets, and photographs.

“Creating an altar for my brother each year is a deeply personal ritual. It allows me to celebrate his life and keep his memory alive,” said Elisa Krcilek, Vice President of Mountain View Funeral Home. “I am delighted to provide this opportunity for others to honor their loved ones in a similar way.”

The celebration will feature a vibrant array of activities, including Folklorico dancers, mariachi performances, and stilt walkers. Attendees can enjoy a variety of food options from local food trucks, and complimentary non-alcoholic margaritas will be available at the margarita stand. Additional attractions include face painting and various entertainment options.

Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Day of the Dead costumes or attire. The event is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to experience the cultural richness of Dia de los Muertos. Participants are welcome to begin setting up their altars at 4 p.m. with festivities continuing until 7:30 p.m.

“Dia de los Muertos is a powerful tradition that brings families together to celebrate and remember those who have passed,” said Greg Coury, Owner of Mountain View Funeral Home. “We are committed to making this event a special experience for everyone and hope to see it grow each year.”

Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery anticipates approximately 25-30 altars and expects a large turnout of community members. Vendors such as Amazing Dental, Archwell Health, Futuro Insurance, and Aflac will be present, adding to the event’s diverse offerings.
