Over the past several months, students from Arizona Virtual Academy and Insight Academy of Arizona as well as their families have been joining forces at a series of volunteer events to support Feed My Starving Children, which culminated with a massive effort in recent weeks to pack lifesaving meals at the organization’s East Valley campus.
In total, the students and their families packed nearly 95,000 meals that will be sent to children in need across approximately 70 countries, primarily Guatemala and the Philippines. This remarkable effort will provide daily meals for 259 children for a full year.
“Feed My Starving Children believes hope starts with food and works with food distribution partners that stay with communities for the long haul, empowering them to move from relief to development,” said Jennifer Wodrich, Arizona Virtual Academy’s community engagement specialist.
According to Feed My Starving Children, the packaged meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition.
“Nutrition allows children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential,” said Wodrich.
