Eastmark High School's Bird’s Nest is a perfect example of how we provide our students with the tools, experiences, and opportunities they need to thrive in the real world. This student-led store is an integral part of the CTE program.

At Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD), we are committed to preparing our students not just for academic success, but for the lives they will lead after graduation.

Eastmark High School's Bird’s Nest is a perfect example of how we provide our students with the tools, experiences, and opportunities they need to thrive in the real world. This student-led store is an integral part of our CTE program. Led by Frank Norris, our marketing teacher and DECA advisor, the store has become a hands-on learning environment where students can apply the skills they’ve developed in the classroom to real-world situations.

The creation of Bird’s Nest aligns with our district’s goal of inspiring all students to meet or exceed their individual and academic goals. By taking ownership of every aspect of the store’s operations—from inventory to customer service—students gain valuable insights into business management, finance, and leadership. This type of experiential learning allows students to see the direct connection between what they study and the practical skills they will need for future success.

More than just a business venture, Bird’s Nest is a community hub where students collaborate, problem-solve, and learn by doing. It has been incredibly rewarding for students to see their hard work come to life, along with the growth of relationships within their team. This spirit of collaboration and teamwork is exactly what we strive to instill in our students across the district.

The success of Bird’s Nest also aligns with a larger purpose within QCUSD—to empower each student with the skills and tools needed for future success. By reinvesting the store’s profits back into the DECA program, students have the opportunity to participate in state and international competitions, where they can showcase their skills, build valuable networks, and gain exposure to a wide range of opportunities. This initiative underscores our belief that learning extends beyond the classroom, with real-world experiences playing a role in preparing students for lifelong success.

Looking ahead, the Bird’s Nest has exciting plans to expand its offerings and engage with the local community, further emphasizing our belief in the power of community partnerships. By involving local businesses and community members, students gain even more exposure to real-world challenges and opportunities, preparing them to become future leaders in our community and beyond.

At QCUSD, we believe in cultivating talent, building character, and providing every student with the opportunity to excel. Bird’s Nest is a shining example of how our district encourages student-led initiatives that not only teach valuable life skills but also foster a sense of pride, responsibility, and accomplishment. This is just one of the many ways we are preparing our students for the lives they will lead after graduation, giving them the tools and confidence to shape their own futures.
