Student safety is a priority for QCUSD Transportation Department

All students within district boundaries have access to safe transportation to and from school, and we work hard to ensure routes are on time and efficient.

Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) offers A-rated schools, exemplary principals and award-winning extracurricular activities, but none of these accomplishments would be possible without students arriving safely at school every day thanks to our Transportation Department.

Student safety is a priority for QCUSD bus drivers, route specialists, mechanics, dispatchers and more. When you see a big yellow school bus on the road, know that they are driving our future.

All students within district boundaries have access to safe transportation to and from school, and we work hard to ensure routes are on time and efficient. During a time when school districts felt the pressure of bus driver shortages across the country, QCUSD was able to maintain a 94-95 percent on-time rate during the 2021-22 school year. Even with 13 more routes than in the previous school year, the district was able to come in under budget for use of third party contractors.

District transportation has an impact on more than the students who ride to school each day. A school bus reduces the average number of cars on the road by 36, traveling an estimated 3,600 miles per year. Imagine 36 more cars on the roads of Queen Creek for each bus you see throughout the school year.

With the growth of our community comes the need for more bus routes and buses. The district has nearly doubled its fleet in the last 10 years as more families moved into the Queen Creek and east Mesa communities, and we are projected to need 118 school buses by the 2024-2025 school year.

On average, students who ride a school bus are about 70 times more likely to get to school safely than those traveling by car. We know the importance of safe rides to school. Our fleet and dedicated employees are driving our future.

Dr. Perry Berry has been superintendent of the Queen Creek Unified School District since June 2015.
