Summer is right around the corner, meaning many families will be hitting the road for camping adventures.
Before heading out for summer vacation it is important to have your RV, often referred to as a motor home, or camper is in compliance with Arizona state laws. Here are four requirements you must consider before taking your RV or camper out this summer.
Registration requirements
Arizona requires that all RVs and campers be registered with the MVD. Fees to register your vehicle will be based upon the type of vehicle, weight and age. When registering your vehicle, you will your title and registration, if it has been registered in your name elsewhere, or any registration that shows you own the vehicle, if you are financing it in a title holding state. You will also have to complete a title and registration application and pay the necessary fees. Certain counties in Arizona may also require you to pass an emissions test for your vehicle.
Once registered, keep your registration up to date to avoid any penalties. RV and camper registrations typically last for one year. Always keep your registration and insurance papers together in a secure location within the vehicle in case you are ever pulled over by police or need to access them quickly in case of an accident.
Registration renewal options
Renewing your RV or camper registration in Arizona can easily be done at an MVD field office or at an authorized third-party provider if you want to skip the lines. If you have just moved to Arizona and are bringing a camper or RV from out of state, you must register the vehicle as soon as you become an Arizona resident. To register your RV or camper from out of state you will need your title, if it is not being held by a lien holding state, or the current or past registration that shows ownership and a completed title and registration application. Once your vehicle or camper is registered, you will receive Arizona license plates and title in the mail allowing you to drive or tow your camper on Arizona highways.
