Taz is a bit energetic, typical of his breed, and he's hoping to score a forever home soon. He does not do well with cats, so he'll do best in a feline-free home. Taz has excellent leash manners and is rumored to enjoy being a lap dog. He knows basic commands, such as "sit," and is a gentleman when receiving a treat.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control opened the doors to its new East Valley shelter at noon on May 2, replacing the old shelter at Rio Salado Parkway and the Loop 101 Price Freeway. The new Mesa shelter feature 346 kennels, 21 yards, a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic and a separate clinic isolation area for preventing the spread of disease. There are smaller groupings of kennels that include indoor and outdoor access and a layout that helps keep dogs relaxed.

The bustling ambiance each Friday from the food trucks of the Queen Creek Feastival will serve as the perfect backdrop for the innovative series from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3 in the Queen Creek Library parking lot, located at 21802 S. Ellsworth Road.

Zachary and his younger brother were playing in their Queen Creek pool when his brother fell in. Without thinking, Zach jumped in, grabbed his brother, who could not swim, and pulled him to the edge. He held on to his brother until his parents could come pull them both out of the pool.

U.S. News & World Report 2024 Best Ranked High Schools reviewed 25,000 public high schools in all 50 states and 360 public high schools in Arizona. The list includes a mix of charter, magnet and traditional schools.

The free event offers a good opportunity to interact with neighbors, community leaders and elected officials in an informal, get-together setting. This spring’s cooks include students from Central Arizona College’s culinary arts program.

The world premiere musical cast of 20 includes local and Broadway talents Travis Kent, Lauren Zakrin and Reanne Acasio.

Nonprofit accepting water, nonperishable food and monetary donations for Valley heat relief. The nonprofit’s goal is to protect the state’s most vulnerable population by collecting and distributing one million bottles of water through Aug. 31. Monetary donations will be matched up to $150,000, made possible by several supporters of Phoenix Rescue Mission.
